About the artist:

Born in 1972 in Aix-en-Provence, Georges Rouan is a French-American self-taught artist living in New York City. Georges' work is influenced by his summers in Maine, music, and popular culture, incorporating images, lyrics, and quotations in multi-layered messages.

Georges often paints a blue lobster in his work, which is a natural phenomenon of 1 in 2 million. The blue lobster is a message of how precious love is and how few connections we really make in life that really speak to us.

Georges' work is principally done on watercolor paper, through a process of painting two individual pieces of paper, cutting the paper, weaving them together, and finally painting an image over them. This style is an homage to Georges' uncle, Francois Rouan, as this style of art creation has been his hallmark of his work for the course of his career.

Having been influenced by textiles and print patterns of the tropics Georges’ color palette tends to be vibrant and complimentary.
